"In the both luxurious and rusty Baghere village, the house for children takes place as a concentric space, allowing for a sense of security and community.

Situated on the external edge of the village, an almost plain ground surrounded by heavy vegetation await for the creation of a new community. Based on a circle, the spaces open up to allow access and viewpoint onto the exterior landscape, as well as giving the opportunity for wind to freely flow thought with refreshing air.

The design, complemented with a well, allows for a complete treatment of malnourish children, phisicaly as well as mentally. For this, a set of calm chambers, on the opposite side of the main access, allow for rest and treatments. Between chamber, modular spaces are introduced thanks to the structure and local colourful fabric, so that not only the children’s but their family can also visit and benefit from care treatments.

The light is contained outside the building, and wild bamboo stores help to climate the intense Senegalese sun, as well as an overhang roof made of bamboo and straw. This roof is anchored to the soil by big chunks of laterite earth, acting as a separator between inside and outside spaces.

The constructed spaces creates a central core, based on the principle of an extended impluvium. This recreational area is design to gathers children’s, family and caretakers. Small toys are set up for children to play, tables can be put to share lunch, chairs to convey a meeting. This space as long as the shaded large entrance allow everyone to share more than a meal, but a sense of community, respect and humanity.
